Strengthening families and communities through meaningful literacy experiences.
Founded in 2012, Legacy of Literacy, Inc. was established to inspire a love of reading and expand literacy opportunities for children and families. Through community partnerships, educational outreach, and access to high-quality books, the organization works to strengthen communities and create meaningful reading experiences.
Guided by the vision of educator and community leader Mrs. Alma Greer, Legacy of Literacy continues to empower children and families through literacy.
Grounded in the belief that reading is essential for navigating today’s increasingly technological and global society, Legacy of Literacy was created to extend learning beyond the classroom and into the heart of the community. Through meaningful partnerships, culturally responsive programming, and access to high-quality books, the organization works to remove barriers and create opportunities for children and families to thrive.
Alongside a dedicated team of volunteers and community partners, Mrs. Greer continues to lead initiatives that strengthen confidence, expand opportunity, and promote lifelong learning because literacy is not simply a skill, but a foundation for empowerment and success.

As a former principal, school board president, and community literacy advocate, Mrs. Alma Greer has dedicated her career to expanding opportunities for students and families through education. Through Legacy of Literacy, she continues to champion initiatives and projects including Real Men Read, Real Women Read, Real Kids Read, and Literacy in the Park that inspire readers and strengthen communities.
